“Luxury”, as patients call the glamour and cleanliness of mama and i, is a clinical necessity and medical value

“The everyday understanding of luxury reflects an attribute of pleasure, not a value or necessity. In this sense, the newly built high-tech maternal and children clinic ‘Mama and I’, which opened on June 1, 2023, is a “luxury acquisition” for Bulgarian pediatric healthcare. In fact, according to all the medical guidelines, clinical methodologies and Bulgarian medical standards and law that we apply, meticulous hygiene and established order are required at least to prevent hospital-acquired infections. Naturally, the clinic is full because we see children from all over Bulgaria, and “luxury”, as we defined it, is maintained around the clock.

PM Denkov, ministers, all MPs and mayors to donate one salary

The only major advance in children’s healthcare in 2023 is the June 1 opening of the newly built high-tech maternal and child health clinic “Mom and Me.” The hospital is overcrowded. Many people are talking, only we are showing up in person and treating the worst cases.

Designed, built and developed with the most advanced medical expertise – without a penny of state investment and without any support from philanthropic campaigns – the “phenomenon” of “Mommy and Me” is now unfolding the front against infant mortality and disability of children and adolescents in Bulgaria. With or without protests or with donation campaigns, initiatives, networks, associations or public councils, nothing else really happens. Even hot water and electricity are not available in some individual.

Every day many parents raise funds through TV shows, social networks and foundations for the treatment of their children abroad. Some manage to meet the high costs, most never. And why don’t we in Bulgaria develop our own network for paediatric help and care with world-leading expertise and make it accessible to all? N a t i o n a l Children’s Hospital. And there won’t be one any time soon, because after the Mum and Me project in Sofia 20 months ago brought together doctors and patient organisations, the state got around to choosing the site. The interests of politicians and parents still diverge. So we took the development into our own hands. Foreign experience is a guide even for our modest scale – a closer and some unattainable example:
– Over 40 million euros have been raised from donations (350 thousand individuals and over 8 thousand companies) in Romania for a specialised children’s oncology hospital with 187 beds. The project has been completed in four years and the facility is now operational.
– More than 850 million Swiss francs have been raised by the private Eleonore Foundation in Zurich for a 230-bed children’s hospital that will open at the end of 2024. The hospital is neither state-owned nor belongs to the cantonal university hospital.

It is therefore time to move to direct donation to raise our national expertise to a world-class level and cover the whole territory of the country.

We only accept named donations, transparently, by bank and electronic transfer only – with full accountability to donors.

The ‘Mama and I’ phenomenon in politics, investment, demography, innovation, reproductive health, development, education and public works

Patients from Sofia, Pleven and all over the country write and speak (with redundancies):

Juliana Atanasova: The people have understood – the new clinic ‘Mom and Me’ is an unknown phenomenon. I seriously suggest that the Council of Ministers – all ministers, every single one of them – visit the overcrowded ‘Mom and Me’. Every single one of them, from finance and investment, to innovation, to urban planning and education, all the way to national security for raising healthy soldiers and mentally stable police officers, has something to learn. Expertise and a model of governance – a national pride!

Alexander Gevrekov: Everybody is very nice, helpful, kind, smiling, concerned about the condition of children. Really caring about the children, every half hour there is a doctor asking us if we need anything and examining the children. The children have somewhere to play, the playground is full of toys, it is very clean. Everything sparkles with cleanliness, the beds in the rooms are very comfortable, both for the children and the adult attendants. A huge THANK YOU for the care you take! You are great!

Emilia Lalova. A team of highly qualified specialists, dedicated to their profession and to the care of young patients, great facilities and amazing attitude. I wish success to all the staff, stay healthy and ever so dedicated!

Monica Hinkova: Heartfelt thanks for the timely and adequate help, for the human and warm attitude!!! Cleanliness, care, attention, the doctors are at a high level, smiling and professional. I had really only heard great things about the hospital, but now I am convinced that it really is great! Everyone is very nice people!!! I recommend!

Kristina Mandieva – Kanalieva: Perfect attitude in the pediatrics of Mom and Me. Doctors – high level, dedicated to their profession. No matter what time of day you call them, they are always there with an answer!

Tomislav Ivanov: As a parent, I would like to share my fascination with the care and professionalism of the doctors in the children’s ward of “Mom and Me” – Sofia. I would like to thank my parents for their kindness and kindness in my personal and professional care. I was impressed by the individual approach and attitude to each child, the fact that in addition to treating, the staff inspires confidence and calm . I am happy that everything is fine with my child and we are happy to celebrate today.

Martina Angelova. I am fascinated not only by the environment, but especially by the attitude and professionalism of all the doctors and midwives. Despite the concerns I had, everything was explained to me in detail and my fears disappeared. Now I am about to give birth and without any worries or doubts I will go back.

Sevdalina Nikolaeva. I will start from the fact that there really are real professionals there! They took us in, everyone was very kind, not only to my baby, but to me! The nurses are great, helpful and kind! The nurses are very attentive to the child! And..ah.. the doctors, the doctors are at a very high level, they exude calmness, security and it is felt by the children and parents! My child was damn calm in their hands! Not to mention that they came in several times during the day to see how we were, to examine the child. I must have asked over 100 questions, every single one was answered, not in half a word, not to explain that I was asking a lot “because I am a first time mother”, but simply because they were willing and working with kef and love this so difficult profession! The material facilities are at a very high level, everything is new, it’s very clean, the environment is important in such situations, not to push you further. The food is perfect. Everything for me and my child was provided. I would like to express my sincerest thanks to the whole team of the Pediatrics department, they did everything necessary for my child, did a hell of a lot of tests and applied adequate treatment! Be healthy everyone!
