International studies show that after infection with COVID-19, many patients have cardiovascular complications. Almost all of them report long-term symptoms of severe fatigue and shortness of breath, which is often the equivalent of heart failure. Since the beginning of the pandemic, 796 deaths have been registered in Bulgaria, and more than 14,000 persons have been cured of the infection. Therefore, the Bulgarian Cardiac Institute has launched a national, free screening campaign with indeterminate duration called “Life after COVID” with the following objectives: identification of the effects of the infection on the cardiovascular system, diagnosis, treatment, long-term follow-up and adequate actions to improve quality of life.

On the Bulgarian Unification Day, the mayor of the municipality of Lovech, Mrs. Cornelia Marinova, solemnly awarded honorary titles and signs of the city. The event opened with a military ceremony with a guard of honor and the raising of the national flag. Prof. Raynov, beloved by the patients Chief Clinical and Scientific Consultant of the Department of Neurosurgery of the University Hospital “Heart and Brain” Pleven, was awarded the title of Honorary Citizen of Lovech.
“40 years ago, I would have never imagined that I would stand here today, among such honorable people. I would like to join the expression of gratitude and appreciation. Wherever I work in the world, I have always considered myself a person belonging to Lovech, and I will remain with you in the future”, said the famous neurosurgeon Prof. Dr. Nikolay Rainov.
He is a member of the “Professional Union of German Neurosurgery” (BDNC) and “Germany Association of Neurosurgery” (DGNC); “Kingdom College of Surgeons” in Edinburg, Great Britain (FRCSEd) honored member; regular member of the “Society of the British neurosurgeons” (SBNS); international member of the “American association of Cancer research” (AACR), “American Association of Neurology Surgeons” (AANS) associate member, “European Association of Neurooncology” (EANO), “American society of Neurooncology” (SNO), “American Society for Gene therapy” (ASGT).
